About JKD Colorado

JKD Colorado is a group of guys training and practicing the art of Jeet Kune Do in Denver, CO.  My name is Mike Gittleson, I am the main instructor and writer for JKD Colorado.  I have spent the last 17 years practicing Jeet Kune Do and trying my hardest to live up to it. The idea of this blog is to unleash my thoughts and if others want to follow along, great! If not, at least I have some release.

  7. Jake says:

Hey my name is Jake and am moving to denver by november and is interested in joining you school. I have studied jeet kune do under my martial arts teacher Oscar Luna who was certified under Danny Inosanto.

  8. Dom says:

I understand you took over for Ted Wong, but im wondering if you teach it traditional as Bruce Lee would teach it or do you favor new atitude like MMA fighters? I would prefer to join an organization that was very very very traditional in atitudes.

    • jkdcolorado says:

Hey Dom, I can’t say that I took over for Mr Wong. Nobody could do that! I’m just doing what I can do to keep JKD going the way he taught it. I’m not sure what you mean about traditional but I do teach it they way I believe he would have wanted it. I’m not a huge fan of many things MMA has done to martial arts. There are a lot of good fighters there but it is a totally different mentality.

      • gerr says:

        Well put.
To me that is the dichotomy, or branching of absorbing what is useful from any martial art. MMA is what ever works….within the rules…. Which is very close to the philosophy of JKD. But then; how do you preserve what Bruce taught when ever one has likes or dislikes of different “ways” ?

      • jkdcolorado says:

Not to be crass but if they don’t “like” it, they should move on to something they do “like”. JKD is not for everyone. Personally, I don’t see how someone can dislike how to punch and kick harder and faster. I have never met a punch that I didn’t like! At least within JKD as I was taught it. Usually, when someone says that they don’t like a technique (I use the word technique loosely), it is because it doesn’t come to them right away and they are too lazy to work on it until it works for them. Bruce taught very specific tools (or techniques) that made up JKD. To him, these where JKD, period. These tools are all useful to everyone.
